Is AKT the most effective natural deodorant?

I tried the all-natural unisex deodorant that's got thousands of 5-star reviews and was voted "Best of the Best Deodorant" in the Harper's Bazaar Awards.

Natural deodorants. I've tried a fair few, from crystal salt sticks, roll ons and DIY deodorants made with baking soda and essential oils. Some were good, some were bad, and some were just plain body-odour-ugly.

I created a shopping guide all about the Best Natural Deodorants so after finding them and reading their incredible reviews, I had to try it.

The first thing you'll probably notice with this deodorant (as I did) was the price. It's £19 for a 50g tube that will last you on average about 2-3 months. It seemed a bit steep, but with so many people absolutely raving about it, I thought the juice must just be worth the squeeze 🍊😉.

AKT deodorant was created and approved by London's West End performers. The aim was to produce a natural deodorant unlike any other, one that was born to perform.

Natural, sustainable and plastic free deodorant

AKT's ethos was to have a plastic free, natural deodorant for all genders that could pass the test with over 1000 professional dancers and athletes.

Ingredients: All balms are aluminium free and made from a base of moisturising vitamin E, shea butter, calendula, odour eliminating sodium bicarbonate and natural zinc oxide with perspiration absorbing qualities of diatomaceous earth (from fossilised algae) and arrowroot.  There are now 5 balms to choose from:

  1. Orange Grove - petitgrain, mandarin, neroli
  2. After Thunder - cedar, eucalyptus, orange
  3. The Onsen - vetiver, lavandin, citrus
  4. Halcyon Summers - mint, pomelo, tomato vine
  5. Columbia Road - amber violet, tonka

Packaging: Everything is 100% recyclable and plastic free. The tube and cap are both made from aluminium and the box and shipping box are non-laminated cardboard and tape free.

Anything else? Yup! It's made and hand-poured in the UK, and is cruelty free.

Out of this world scent

Scent: I opted for The Onsen, with opening notes of citrus, lavender and mint, and a dry down of vetiver and cedarwood. The scent is really quite stunning. I much prefer unisex scents anyway, but this is almost on par with natural perfumes in their own right. When I wear this I usually pop a little over my wrists and neck and it totally doubles as an everyday scent instead of wearing a fragrance (which would also cost way more than this).

Application: It's pretty straightforward. You have to break the seal with a pen, squeeze a pea sized amount out and swipe it over your underarms. It's got a really smooth premium-feel texture that absorbs instantly, so my armpits were in no way sticking together or attracting all kinds of fabric fluff.

To make things even easier AKT do a pretty swanky gold applicator called ever appropriately,
The Applicator for £26.

And to get absolutely every drop out of your tube you can get The Assistant - the 𝓁𝒾𝓉𝑒𝓇𝒶𝓁 key to zero waste, for just £9.

It really is a super effective deodorant

Effectiveness: I can now see why this has won so many awards. It lasts all day under pretty intense circumstances. I've worn mine on a 6 hour woodland hike with my dog on a sunny day and I didn't smell dank by the end of it at all. It also didn't leave any stains or cruddy marks on my clothes (and I wear a lot of black).

It didn't prevent me from sweating (as natural deodorants aren't built to do anyway), but I will say I noticed a difference in perspiration compared to other natural deodorant brands I've used before. The big important plus however, was the fact that it really holds up in terms of scent staying power in the battle of B.O.

Final thoughts: Even though I also love some other natural deodorants, if you're looking for that extra level strength (and luxury all-natural scent), I would highly recommend giving AKT a go.

Overall I will definitely buy from AKT again as after experiencing The Onsen I need to try those other scents. You can save 15% with a subscription and get free shipping (win win) or use our exclusive code below for all all one-off purchases.
