There are few things more satisfying than slipping into freshly laundered, luxuriously soft bed linen. When that bedding also happens to be sustainably sourced, ethically made, and wrapped in charming family-run business vibes — you’ve got yourself a serious bedtime upgrade.

Add to that, the fact it's iron-free with exceptional durability that could last a lifetime and breathable comfort all year round. Well, now we’re talking dream bedding on every level. Enter Secret Linen Store, founded by sisters Molly and Harriet, who combined their backgrounds in textiles and marketing to create thoughtfully designed, sustainable bedding with a personal, family-run touch.

I'm doing a deep dive into their 100% linen bedding to see whether I think it's worth the investment and if it's better in the long run for your pocket, the planet, and a proper night's sleep.

I chose a King Fitted Sheet, King Duvet Cover, and two Oxford Pillowcases in the colour 'Olive'. For years I’d always used cotton or cotton-blend bedding—until I switched to Eucalyptus Silk sheets, which I instantly preferred. But linen? Oooh I’d always adored the effortless, crumpled, bohemian aesthetic—it felt like the pinnacle of laid-back luxury. Still, with a higher price tag, that little voice would creep in again: “Am I just being indulgent? Will it really be worth it?” Especially if, like me, you grew up thinking bedding costs £60 from Dunelm. Spoiler alert: oh my gosh, yes—it’s absolutely worth it, and this review will tell you why.

Packaging With Purpose

Firstly, it arrived super fast with DPD next day delivery, and you'll be kept notified with a time slot for exactly when it will arrive.

So far even the packaging deserves its own gold star. They use recyclable paper potato sacks for shipping which adds a certain rustic charm to the unwrapping experience!

Inside, the set arrives neatly packed with minimal, eco-conscious packaging with no unnecessary plastic or mountains of inserts like cardboard stiffeners. They reduce landfill waste by keeping things simple with biodegradable bags (no microplastics) and a reusable cotton ribbon.

First Impressions

The Olive Green colourway is exactly as I hoped — it's the perfect natural green tone that brings an earthy richness to the bedroom, grounding the space and working beautifully with my natural headboard and soft blush walls.

Unwrapping the bedding I was met with perfectly crisp but already butter-soft 100% pure linen. It's also incredibly durable with a natural texture that only gets softer over time.

Fabric & Comfort

Linen is woven from the finest flax fibres and individually dyed in Portugal, giving each item a slightly unique artisanal finish.

What really sets it apart is the temperature-regulating magic of linen. During these currently very balmy June nights, the sheets feel so cool and breathable. Yet, on a chillier evening with the windows cracked open, linen will adapt to offer a snug cocoon of cosy comfort.

Linen is also naturally moisture-wicking, hypoallergenic, and resistant to dust mites, making it ideal for sensitive skin or allergy sufferers.

It's also OEKO-TEX® certified,  meaning there are no harmful chemicals, no irritants—just pure, natural and safe for everyone.

Is Linen Better Than Cotton?

In a nutshell, yes! Linen is more breathable, moisture-wicking, hypoallergenic and lasts longer than cotton. It also has a much lower environmental footprint during growth and processing. This table makes it clear why linen is the gold standard for sustainable, long-lasting bedding. Cotton has its place, but if you want the full package—eco-credentials, comfort, and a look that only improves with age—linen is the winner.

Feature Linen Cotton
😌 Breathability Excellent Good
🌡️ Temperature Keeps cool in summer & warm in winter Warm but can trap heat
💧 Moisture-Wicking Yes Moderate
💪 Durability Extremely durable, softens over time Durable but less so than linen
🌳 Eco Impact Low water use, fewer pesticides, biodegradable Higher water and pesticide use
🚰 Care Machine washable, no ironing needed Machine washable, often needs ironing
☁️ Texture Textured, relaxed look Smooth, crisp feel
💰 Cost Higher upfront, better long-term value Generally lower cost

Sleep Experience

After a week of sleeping in the Olive Green set, one thing became clear: I was genuinely excited to get into bed each night. The linen somehow holds onto that freshly washed feeling longer than anything else I’ve tried—probably thanks to how well it breathes and regulates temperature. And as someone who’s a very fussy sleeper—cold one minute, overheating the next—there were no sweaty wakeups, no midnight blanket kicks. Just cool, cosy comfort, night after night.

I also loved the way it transformed the room—there’s something about the texture and tone that makes everything feel more organic, grounded, and calm. And after the first wash? The colour stayed deep and rich, and the fabric already felt that little bit softer, and it only gets better with every wash.

Since switching to 100% linen, I’m convinced this is forever my ✨jam✨— and that once you go linen, there’s really no turning back.

Since trying 100% linen, I'm convinced this is forever my ✨jam✨ and that once you go linen, you will never look back.

Caring for it couldn’t be easier, either. Just wash at 30–40 degrees, avoid harsh brighteners, line dry or tumble on low, then pop it straight back on the bed – because here’s the kicker: there's no ironing needed. The relaxed, lived-in look is all part of the charm and appeal (and I've been wanting this for soooo long).

And when it comes to getting the right fit? Secret Linen Store has you covered. The Olive Green linen range is available in everything from Single to Emperor, with pillowcases in Standard, King, and Super King. You can choose between a clean Housewife edge or a more decorative Oxford style—and with 22 colours in the full linen collection, you can truly build your dream bed.

Sustainability & Ethical Production

Secret Linen Store is a certified B Corp, meaning they meet top standards for social and environmental impact. Their OEKO-TEX® certified linen is made in Portugal by long-standing, family-run factories they’ve worked with for over 25 years—guaranteeing quality, fair working conditions, regular audits, and sustainable practices.

Offcuts are cleverly repurposed into napkins, valances, and ‘Waste Not Want Not’ craft packs—minimising textile waste.

They support the Sussex Kelp Recovery and Seabed Restoration Projects through 1% of Kelp Range sales, helping rewild marine habitats and protect the coastline.

To offset their carbon footprint, they partner with Ecologi, backing Gold Standard projects—from wind power in Sri Lanka to rainforest protection in Peru—plus tree planting across Africa.

And with their partnership with The Seam, you can even get your linen repaired or personalised—extending its life and cutting waste. Win-win.

Charity & Social Impact

Secret Linen Store doesn’t just prioritise the planet—they care deeply about people too.

They donate unsellable but usable bedding through Goods for Good, helping refugees, homeless communities and vulnerable families. Through Choose Love, they support displaced people with essentials, from legal aid to maternity care.

Their partnership with the Trussell Trust backs food banks across the UK, and they also champion Dress a Girl Around the World, encouraging customers to turn old pillowcases into handmade clothing for children in need.

Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?

Absolutely. This isn’t just bedding—it’s an investment in better sleep, thoughtful sustainability, and a bedroom that feels like a true sanctuary.

With B Corp certification, ethical production, waste-reducing and climate-positive initiatives, plus a community-first approach, Secret Linen Store makes bedding that feels good in every sense.

My Rating: 9/10

For comfort, aesthetics, ethics, sustainability, and sheer bedtime joy—it’s hard to beat. The only reason it’s not a perfect 10 is that upfront cost. You could easily buy two cheap cotton sets that won’t last—or you could invest in one beautiful linen set that gets softer with age and elevates your sleep experience every single night.

Honestly… you'll thank me later!
