Barker & Stonehouse is a British, family-run retailer offering unique furniture with sustainability in mind.
From 100% recyclable sofas and mattresses to furniture made from reclaimed materials, sustainability is high on Barker and Stonehouse’s list of priorities when it comes to products.
They are proud to be a Carbon Neutral Plus Brand, which has been achieved by continually reducing the carbon output, with an enhanced vigilance on heating, lighting and wastage. This has included solar panelling, low-energy heating and lighting systems for all of their stores as well as using renewable energy. Living walls have also been planted on the walls of Barker and Stonehouse stores, whenever physically possible, creating a wildlife habitat and increasing biodiversity, as well as helping to clean the air.
Over a decade ago, they were a founding partner of the Trees4Trees reforestation project in Indonesia, and have now planted over 1.7 million trees along with ensuring soil and crop health, tree growing and farming best practice and the education of local communities to ensure they are able to survive economically without resorting to environmentally damaging practices.
Barker and Stonehouse plant a tree for every delivery made and have a fleet of delivery vans and trailers to help continue to reduce carbon. Equipped with routing technology, it ensures delivery vehicles make the most fuel-efficient tours, thereby cutting down on emissions.
